Nil Desperandum is a campground in Canberra, reservable through ACT Parks. SMOKING IS NOT PERMITED INSIDE THE PROPERTY. Sleeping Arrangements: Nil Desperandum can sleep up to 6 guests in two bedrooms. One room has a double bed, and the second room has two bunk beds with 4x king-single mattresses. Camping is not permitted at the property, or in the reserve. All guests must be included in the 6 person sleeping arrangements. We do not recommend staying overnight for small children and infants due to the potential weather extremes and historic nature of the property. Check-in/Check-out: Check-in is between 1 and 4pm at the Tidbinbilla Visitor Centre. Please allow yourself 30 minutes to check-in and drive to the property. Check-out is at 10am at the Visitor Centre. Please allow yourself enough time to get back to the visitor centre and return the keys by 10am. Late check-outs will be considered upon request by emailing naturestays@act.gov.au after booking. What to Bring: - Personal Locator Beacon or EPIRB (recommended) - First Aid Kit, including snake bite kit (recommended) - Torches - Sunscreen and insect repellent - Bedding (i.e. pillows, sleeping bags, bed linens and blankets) - Cutlery, plates, tea towels and cooking utensils - Food and drink, as the nearest shops are 30 minutes away - Rubish bags - Firewood, kindling and firelighters. Wood cannot be collected from within ACT parks and reserves - including Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. - Your own axe/hatchet to chop firewood and kindling (brought by you). - Camera - ACT weather can be very hot or cold, please bring appropriate clothing and bedding. - Please note that you will be responsible to getting your belongings up there and back - this includes firewood purchases. Cleaning: It is expected that you will leave the property as you found it. This includes cleaning the BBQ if you use it, sweeping the floors when you leave and taking your rubbish with you. Water: The water supply comes from an untreated rainwater tank, so using it for drinking or cleaning is at your own risk. We suggest boiling rainwater before consumption or brining your own water supply for your stay. Communications: There is limited mobile reception at Nil Desperandum. In case we need to locate you during your stay, please ensure that yourself or a member of your party completes the walking track register (located in the kitchen) each time you set out for a walk away from the cottage. Heritage Values: Nil Desperandum was built by a method of construction known as pise, or rammed earth. Because of this, staying at Nil Desperandum is a unique experience that takes you back in time. The walls of the property require care and damage to them may result in your being charged for repairs. It lists 1 bookable site across Two Bedroom Cottage. Recent rates read around $220.78 a night for the stays checked. Popular dates here go early: the busiest holiday and long-weekend nights are often fully reserved well before the trip, and once a date fills the reservation system simply shows no availability for it at all. After that point the usual way to get a site is a cancellation. When a booked party changes plans their site is released back into the system and briefly becomes available again, frequently at an awkward hour and often taken within minutes by whoever happens to be looking. grabio watches Nil Desperandum on a fixed one-minute schedule and compares what is bookable now against the previous check. The moment a site matching your dates opens, whether from a cancellation or from newly released inventory, it alerts you so you can book it yourself on the official ACT Parks system. It never books, holds, or reserves anything on your behalf; it only tells you the instant a spot appears, so you are not left refreshing a booking page by hand late at night. Alerts go out by email by default, with optional Telegram and text messages, and a watcher can cover an exact set of dates or a flexible window, so you only hear about openings that fit the trip you are actually planning. Because grabio only ever reads the public reservation system, it sees exactly what ACT Parks shows, and it keeps watching until a matching site opens or your dates pass. Nightly fees, site restrictions, vehicle and equipment limits, and the current booking window are set by ACT Parks and shown on the official page for Nil Desperandum.

Frequently Asked Questions
- How does the cancellation alert for Canberra - Nil Desperandum work?
- Grabio polls the ACT Parks reservation system roughly every minute and compares the available sites against the previous check. The moment a spot opens at Canberra - Nil Desperandum, often a last-minute cancellation, a email alert goes out right away, so nobody has to keep refreshing the booking page by hand.
- How fast does an alert arrive after a cancellation?
- Scans run continuously on a one-minute cycle, so an alert typically lands within a few minutes of a site opening at Canberra - Nil Desperandum. The exact delay depends on when ACT Parks itself reflects the change on its own reservation system, since Grabio only reads what that system already shows.
- What happens if nothing opens up before my trip?
- Grabio only watches: it never books, holds, or pays on your behalf. If no cancellation appears before your stay date, the watcher just keeps running until then, and you can also check the ACT Parks site directly for standard availability.
