Getting a campsite shouldn't take luck.

The best sites in the best parks are gone within seconds of the booking window opening, often five months before anyone pitches a tent. If you were not on the reservation page with your dates typed in and your finger down, you were never in the running.

But plans change. People cancel, constantly, right up to the week of. Those sites quietly return to the map at 2pm on a Tuesday, and they are taken again within minutes by whoever happened to be looking. Catching one is not skill. The honest comparison

It does, on almost every system we watch, and often that is the right tool. Here is exactly where it stops.

One fixed filter, or a whole window
A built-in alert matches one fixed set of filters, and Recreation.gov's cannot be edited once you create it, so changing a date range means deleting the alert and rebuilding it against its three-alert cap. A watcher holds the window instead: any weekend between two dates, or any three nights in July.
The categories they leave out
Parks Canada's own notification covers frontcountry and its roofed units, and states plainly that it excludes backcountry. Grabio watches backcountry on Parks Canada and BC Parks, so a permit hunt sits inside what we do and outside what their alert does.
One list, not an account per system
Watching four systems with the built-in alerts means four accounts, four alert screens, and four separate caps to keep straight. Grabio holds every system we watch in one list, and sends one alert stream by email, Telegram, or text.
Nothing is metered
